A brief biography
Ian was born on August the 6th 1962 in Cambridge at about eleven in the morning. Interrupting an
otherwise good cup of coffee.
He was, however, not destined to grow up in this city of dreaming spires, immaculate quadrants and
wide open skies for, at the tender age of eighteen months, he moved south with his family across
the border to Essex.
It was here that Ian grew up, was educated to a thoroughly comprehensive standard and worked until
his third decade whereupon he struck out for greener pastures in the arcane world of
information technology.
It was then that he decided to start writing as a rewarding way to while away the long dark winter's nights.
The first novel he completed was The Cider Mill.
Then followed the long haul to develop the Bernard Baker series. It was about this time
that Ian developed an interest in theatre and joined the local amateur dramatic society and got
involved with the technical side of theatre, applying his computing skills to sound.
After being bitten by the theatrical bug, Ian decided to write his first play. It was after
returning from the National Drama Festival in April 2006 that he decided to have a go at a single
act play that might be used in the 2007 competition. He took one of his old talking head pieces
that hadn't seen the light of day for some time. That piece was called Resonant Frequency
and, to cut a long story short, grew from a stand alone single act into a full blown two hour,
three act play.
'I doubt I will ever forget the first night of Resonant Frequency.
I had only read about cold sweats, to experience them first hand was something I will remember for a long time.'
Less than a year later, in September 2007, Poppy Appeal was performed to much critical acclaim.
